Environmental Services Department
| The Environmental Services Department administers various services including Solid Waste Management, Liquid Waste Management, Fort Fraser Water and Sewer Works, Invasive Plant Control and is also actively involved in the Regional District's Occupational Health and Safety Program |
Solid waste management includes the operation and management of the Regional District's landfill and transfer station facilities to ensure that the handling and ultimate disposal of the region's waste is compliant with environmental standards as set by the Ministry of Environment. Solid waste management also includes promoting the 3R's principals (reduce, reuse and recycling).
Liquid waste management primarily involves the operation and management of septage receiving facilities which provides for disposal for residents of the area with private sewage collection and treatment systems.
The Environmental Services Department works closely with the Fort Fraser Local Commission to manage and operate the community's water and wastewater systems. Both of these systems are covered under permits issues by Northern Health and the Ministry of Environment respectively.
Invasive plant control and public education services are conducted through a joint effort with the Regional District acting in partnership with the Northwest Invasive Plant Council.
