The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako is seeking an experienced individual to fill the position of Director of Protective Services. 

The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako provides local government services to a large area of more than 77,000 square kilometers of scenic mountains, rolling hills, lakes and rivers.  The office is located in Burns Lake, a dynamic community that is known for its hospitality and as the Gateway to Tweedsmuir Provincial Park.  The region offers affordable housing, stunning scenery, and incomparable recreation opportunities such as world class fishing, mountain biking, and cross country skiing.

The Director of Protective Services is responsible for overseeing the Regional District’s Emergency Preparedness and Response, Rural Fire Protection, 911, and Occupational Health and Safety Program functions.  The Director is responsible for ensuring the provision of efficient and effective services in compliance with applicable policy and legislative requirements.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, motivated and strategically minded. A minimum of 5 years of experience as an emergency management professional is required, along with a thorough knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of the local authority under the Emergency Program Act, and a good understanding of the Fire Services Act and the operation of rural Fire Departments.  The position requires a motivated and solutions oriented individual with exceptional written and verbal communications skills, as well as a superior ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with volunteers, Regional District staff, elected officials, and stakeholders. 

As a member of the Regional District’s Senior Management Team, and reporting directly to the CAO, the Director of Protective Services will play a fundamental role in developing, recommending and implementing plans, policies, bylaws and programs, and for preparing and monitoring departmental budgets.
