Hazard, Risk, Vulnerability Analysis

Building a safer future through effective partnerships of local government, emergency services, private sector, and volunteer agencies and the residents of the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako.” (RDBN)

A Hazard, Risk, and Vulnerability Analysis (HRVA) is a critical part of every emergency management program and is a requirement of the Local Authority Emergency Management Regulation of the Emergency Program Act.

The HRVA program engaged community members, hazard specialists, First Nations, local authorities, and emergency response agencies in identifying hazards that have the likelihood to cause an emergency or disaster in the local areas. The process assessed the consequences should the emergency or disaster occur. Understanding vulnerable locations, or areas at risk, helps the RDBN to establish future risk reduction priorities. The final HRVA Report is an evergreen document and will be reviewed annually to identify any changes to the hazard risk and vulnerability of the region.

Key elements and the timeline of the project is illustrated below.

Historical information provided by members of the community plays a key role in identifying the hazards and risks of the many different areas in our region. If you have valuable information that would benefit the HRVA process, please contact:  Deborah Jones-Middleton, Director of Protective Services
