The Regional District’s Environmental Services Department is seeking a self-starting person to join our team commencing August 20, 2018.

Minimum Qualifications:

Class 1 driver’s license with air break endorsement.

Heavy Equipment Operators Certificate or equivalent years’ experience.

High School Diploma

This position is permanent, full time and offers a competitive wage and comprehensive benefits package following the successful completion of a 6 month probationary period. The regular hours of work would be 4 nine hour days 7 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Thursday. When replacing a waste haul driver, landfill or transfer station attendant the hours would vary to coordinate with the hours at the work site.

The general duties of the Operations Foreman will be:

  • Assist the Operations Supervisor in the day to day operations of the waste hauling, landfills and transfer stations.
  • Holiday and sick leave relief for waste haul drivers, landfill attendants and transfer station attendants.
  • Haul broken down equipment to designated mechanical shops utilizing the 1 ton pickup truck and 20ft tandem trailer or the 18 speed western star tractor unit and lowbed.
  • All general labour duties required.
  • Assist in the day to day operations of Fort Fraser’s water and sewer systems when required.

Skills that the Operations Assistant should possess:

  • Good public relations skills;
  • The job is physically demanding and the applicant should enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions;
  • Safety conscious;
  • Able to understand and carry out directions from your supervisor on your own.
  • The ability to keep an organized, clean and tidy site.
  • Including the ability to correctly fill out paperwork and documentation;
  • Experience operating and maintaining heavy equipment including excavators with thumbs, crawler dozers, loaders, dump trucks and roll-off trucks, bobcat skid steers and 53ft tractor trailer units.  Experience with the above equipment in earthwork and road building construction activities where achievement of proper elevation and grading would be an asset.
