Agriculture within the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako is diverse, although it is strongly characterized by livestock and forage production. The region supports a wide range of agricultural activities, including cattle ranching, hay and field crops, pasture, poultry, and smaller-scale horticultural production. In 2021, the district contained approximately 214,943 hectares of farmland, with a large proportion devoted to natural and seeded pasture, hay, and other field crops. At the same time, farms produced smaller quantities of vegetables, fruits, berries, nursery products, and greenhouse crops, demonstrating that agriculture extends beyond traditional ranching. This diversity reflects the region's varied landscapes and growing conditions and provides opportunities for both extensive agricultural operations and more specialized, smaller-scale producers. Overall, while livestock and forage remain the foundation of agriculture in Bulkley-Nechako, the presence of multiple crop and production types contributes to a diverse regional agricultural sector. The region supports two abattoir facilities, well-established farmers’ markets, and a strong consumer base for local farm products.
