The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako (RDBN) is committed to ensuring citizens are kept informed of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.  The RDBN is actively monitoring the status of the pandemic and taking appropriate precautions.  We are taking direction from both Northern Health and the BC Centre for Disease Control in order to do our part to help minimize the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The RDBN believes the following closures and restrictions are necessary to protect the health and well being of employees and members of the public. We apologize for the inconveniences this may cause.  In the meantime, the public is urged to follow the recommendations from both the Federal and Provincial Health Authorities.

BC Transit Operations
At this time, BC Transit Operations are continuing as scheduled.  Fares have been waived during the COVID-19 Pandemic.  The following precautions are being established to protect the Public and Transit Drivers.

As of Monday, March 30, BC Transit operators will be monitoring passenger capacity based on direction from BC Transit operations to allow additional space in-between customers to ensure safe space for people to move within the bus. Please visit for the March 27 BC Transit update.

  • Fares will not be collected on any buses to increase Social Distancing.
  • Customers are encouraged to support social distancing practices by staying behind the red line, moving to an open area of the bus.
  • Customers are asked to refrain from riding the bus if they are sick.
  • BC Transit staff and customers are asked to be mindful of proper hand hygiene etiquette.

BC Transit will continue to evaluate the situation and implement appropriate precautions as the COVID-19 pandemic evolves.

Environmental Services

As of March 17, 2020, the Re-Use Sheds at all Regional District Transfer Stations and Landfills are closed to the public until further notice.  

Transfer Stations, Recycling Depots, and Landfills will remain open to the public, with the expectation that guidelines for social distancing is adhered to by patrons of our facilities to keep our staff and the public safe.

There are no operational changes to the Fort Fraser Water and Sewer Utility Systems at this time.

Administrative Services

The RDBN office is closed to the public until further notice. Public access will be limited to electronic communications via phone and email.

The Bulkley Valley Pool was closed effective 3:00 p.m., March 16, 2020 until further notice.

Planning Services

The RDBN will continue to provide Building Inspection services for unoccupied buildings. with no anticipated change in our schedule.  Building inspection services for occupied residents is at the discretion of the building inspector.  This includes service in all rural areas, and for the District of Houston, Village of Telkwa, Village of Granisle, Village of Burns Lake, Village of Fraser Lake, and District of Fort St. James.  Please continue to book inspection using regular procedures or call the RDBN at 1-800-320-3339 or 250-692-3195 if you have any questions. Please note that the Building Inspectors will conduct indoor inspection of occupied buildings at their discretion.

All other Planning services are continuing to operate as usual.

Protective Services

On March 18, 2020 the RDBN formally activated the Emergency Operations Centre at Level 1.
