Project Date: May 15, 2026 – May 12, 2027, or until the funds are depleted Provided to the Regional District Rural Property Owners
The RDBN has secured a grant to provide rural property owners with Civic Address Signage. This program is free of charge and promotes improvements to emergency response, public safety and service delivery in rural communities.
The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako provides 911 services by establishing the necessary infrastructure to connect First Nation communities, municipalities, and rural residents within the RDBN to police, fire and ambulance.
Local governments are responsible for assigning addresses in BC and all property owners must have a civic address for emergency 911 purposes.
Having a clearly posted civic address sign at the end of your driveway is the primary method for emergency services, such as police, ambulance and fire departments, to quickly identify locations. Proper signage also aids in notifying residents whose properties may be subject to evacuation alerts and/or orders during an emergency event.
To receive One (1) 6” x 18” single sided green aluminum sign with reflective numbering, please complete the order form below.
Please note: One sign per civic address will be given.

Frequent Asked Questions
Why is the RDBN providing these signs to the rural property owners?
The goal of this project is to improve emergency response by providing residents with highly visible signage for installation at the end of their residential driveway. This project will also help identify any properties without a current civic address or any addresses that are incorrect.
What is a civic address and why do I need one?
Civic addressing enables the quick identification of your property by emergency service personnel (RCMP, BC Ambulance and local Fire Departments). Thus, it is important to post your assigned house numbers in a visible location at the end of your driveway. The RDBN Planning Department has assigned civic addresses to all known homes and businesses in the unincorporated areas of the Regional District.
Receiving a civic address has no effect on your property taxes or fees, and there is no charge for this service.
To sign up for a civic address visit RDBN website Planning Department or call Regional District Planning Department 250-692-3195 or 1-800-320-3339.
How long will I have to wait for my civic address sign?
It may take up to 4-6 weeks, depending on the number of orders received.
How do I receive my free civic address sign?
You will be notified by RDBN staff to make arrangements for pick up.
Is there a deadline date when orders need to be received?
The civic address sign program is currently open and will close May 12, 2027 or until the funds are depleted.
Who will be responsible for the installation of the civic address sign?
It is the responsibility of the property owner for the hardware, materials and installation of the civic address sign, the RDBN will only supply the sign.
Are there requirements when installing a civic address sign?
Yes, the sign must be visible from the end of the driveway and clearly mounted 5 feet from the ground.
