Parks & Outdoor Recreation Services Study
The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako (RDBN) has completed the Parks & Outdoor Recreation Study. The Study explores what role the RDBN could play in formally providing parks and outdoor recreation services and providing sustainable funding for volunteer clubs that maintain outdoor recreation assets.
The RDBN and the consulting team would like to say a big thank-you to everyone who participated in the Study, especially the 42 clubs who gave their time for interviews. Your input and ideas allowed us to develop a Study that is grounded in local needs. Below are links to a 10 minute video providing an overview of the Study as well as pdf links to the Executive Summary and the Final Report:
Background on the Study
In response to increased public demand for outdoor recreation opportunities and challenges faced by volunteer groups to upkeep existing parks, trails, campsites, boat ramps, and other outdoor amenities, the Regional District developed the Parks and Outdoor Recreation Study.
The Study seeks to answer the following questions:
· What type of parks and outdoor recreation areas do RDBN residents value and want to see improved?
· What is working well for existing volunteer recreation clubs and what are their challenges?
· What could a parks and outdoor recreation service in the RDBN look like? What would it cost?
The diagram below outlines the process and highlights from the engagement process.
