Recreation Contribution Grant Program

The RDBN, in partnership with participating municipalities, has established the following four Recreation Contribution Service Areas to provide financial assistance to registered non-profit societies that offer outdoor recreational activities for residents and visitors:

  • Electoral Area A (Smithers/Telkwa Rural) and the Town of Smithers;
  • Electoral Area B (Burns Lake Rural), Electoral Area E (Francois/Ootsa Lake Rural), and the Village of Burns Lake;
  • Electoral Area C (Fort St. James Rural) and the District of Fort St. James;
  • Electoral Area G (Houston/Granisle Rural), the District of Houston, and the Village of Granisle.

The intent is to provide multi year funding for operational expenses for registered non-profit societies that are providing recreation opportunities.

The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako is issuing a call for applications for funding under the Recreation Contribution Grant Program in each service area. 

This funding opportunity is open to registered non-profit societies that are providing outdoor recreation opportunities and is intended to provide up to 3 years of funding for operational expenses. 

Eligible expenses include costs directly associated with operating and maintaining an outdoor recreation facility operated by a registered non-profit society.  Annual funding per application is capped at $15,000 per society.  Joint applications involving multiple societies will be considered.

To qualify for funding through the Recreation Contribution Grant Program the applicant must be a registered non-profit society in good standing under the BC Societies Act, and the recreation activity must be available to all residents of the service area.

Successful applicants will be required to enter into a funding agreement with the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako which will outline the term of the agreement, the maximum funds to be provided, the annual reporting requirements, and indemnity and insurance requirements.

Applications must be made on the application form provided by the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako which can be obtained on request from regional district staff.  To request an application form please send an e-mail to planning@rdbn.bc.ca  outlining the society’s name, the name of the associated recreation facility requiring funding support, and a general description of the proposed use of the funds.
